If you'd like to experience a creative journey in a fun and supportive space, visit The Cape Cod Art Bar for a Paint Night. I'm thrilled to be hosting Multimedia Paint Day and Night: Saturday, July 16th at 1:00pm and Thursday, July 28th at 7:00pm.
Here's some thoughts about my creative excursion to The Cape Cod Art Bar last weekend. This particular night I was painter rather than teacher. I looked forward to the experience of being led through the well thought out steps of painting sky, water and shadowy mermaid. I cheerfully snapped pictures of my masterpiece in progress as I listened carefully to the instructions-putting down colors on the canvas. It then came time to paint the moon by twirling the brush in a circular motion. No problem-I've got this!...or do I? I had already grown fond of my canvas and didn't want to add a poorly executed moon. I loaded the brush with paint and carefully placed it in just the right spot. Reliably, my inner gremlin piped in with all-things-negative and pointed out that I had hung an egg rather than the moon! I raised my hand and explained my perdicament to the proper Art Bar authorities. A kind assistant assured me it was all good and the egg-moon was a figment of my imagination. In the end, he was right-it was all good. I made some minor adjustments, added highlights and a perch of land for my mermaid. Finished. Happy. Crisis averted. I create through painting, music and yoga on a daily basis. Even so, I am not immune to feelings of uncertainty...of self doubt. The practice of creating and working through the predictable difficult or ugly phases of paintings or projects continues to reminded me that trusting the creative journey is great practice for trusting life's journey. So take a break from this crazy, busy world to create in whatever form that takes for you: building, parenting, teaching, painting. Trust the journey. xoxo Linda Dias The Mindful Painter |
