![]() I took a little visit to a Cape Cod nursing facility with my art supplies and a roll of masking tape in tow. Those that awaited my arrival checked out my demo painting, "Stained Glass Window" and offered varying responses. Some were excited to begin and others noted "I'm not an artist" or "I can't do fine detail." Colors from the warm side of the color wheel, sturdy brushes and encouragement were offered. Masking tape was applied to produce angular spaces for painting. The artists began mixing colors and tentatively applying paint to the canvas. The final touch of blue (the focal point) was added and the paintings were officially in the "hot mess" stage for sure. THEN the magic happened...the tape was carefully removed! Vibrant and concise geometric shapes appeared from the messy, painty surface. The most common responses from the group were wide eyes and a "WOW!" I just love to create opportunities for a good "WOW." Not an artist? Can't do fine detail? ...well then, I have just the tools in my toolbox to get the job done. xoxo Linda www.creationsofcapecod.com Need a fresh idea for your next gathering, birthday party, corporate event? ![]() It was a beautiful summer day on Cape Cod. I sat outside tinkering with my harp and marveling at the perfect weather. As I wove my way through various chord progressions, I found a melody that reminded me of something. The pattern of notes sounded delicate and implied movement and grace. The memory was of a small music box I had as a child. Its wooden lid opened and a glass window displayed the intricate workings that created the wandering tune. As I repeated the melody and added and shifted notes, it became apparent to me that this small wooden box held similarities with us humans. Yes-the spirit is strong AND (not but) there are delicate workings below the surface. Taking care of the mind, body and spirit can be achieved in many ways. For me, the harp is my self-care. It's my respite from the hectic world and my busy mind. Are you looking for ways to take better care of yourself? Think outside the box. Notice what you're drawn toward or perhaps what you used to be drawn to as a child. If it's music, consider spending some time listening to what soothes your mind, body, spirit. So here it is-my Cape Cod summer day composition, Gentle Turning, performed on my 26 string harp. Enjoy:) Gentle Turnings by Linda Dias.
